Rare Breed: Norwegian Lundehund by Idess

Here's the second breed of my "Rare Breed" series, the Norwegian Lundehund!

The Norwegian Lundehund Club of America Website:
http://www.lundehund.com/

The Norwegian Lundehund were bred to hunt puffins on the rocky cliffs of Iceland and Norway. They have six toes on each foot. The fifth toe is actually as dexterous as their other toes, and the sixth is similar to a dewclaw.
They can also fold up their ears to keep out dust and debris.
They are able to bend their neck backwards all the way and touch their forehead to their spine! They can also spread their front legs all the way out perpendicular to their body.

The Norwegian Lundehund almost became extinct, but thanks to lovers of this unique breed, it has made a comeback and has been accepted into the "Miscillaneous Class" of the AKC.

Original is 12.5"x18.5"

Unlikely Friends by Idess

An elk and a young coyote, naturally enemies, form a friendship as they have a nice conversation while travelling across the plains.
Though it seems the conversation is more one-sided... but hey, it's a coyote; who can blame him? ;)

The background is a watercolor painting by myself, the character's lineart is pencil, and the characters are colored digitally. So this isn't really digital work... more like mixed media.
Elk are awesome o3o There needs to be more drawings of them!

Break These Chains by Idess

A sketch from December that I decided to color tonight, and first time using the actual sketch lines as 'lineart'. It was really fun and different. Generic black wolf, but I don't think any other color would have sufficed.
(Sorry if it is too dark, my laptop screen is brighter than most).

Background is my own, created from a watercolor texture I made.

Someone at Further Confusion in January bought the original sketch. :)

Thank you laserbeams for the new watermark!

Signet Commission by Idess

My last commission left over from Further Confusion! This took me much longer than it should have, and I still feel very bad about it. Signet, the commissioner, was very patient and wonderful to work with.
This was commissioned as a "colored sketch" at the con (hence no background), but since it took me so long to do I added more detail and put more into it than the normal colored sketch.

The requirements were to simply draw his KangarooxSeal character with a peach. I tossed around many ideas, but this one came to me and stuck :P

Spare Bulb by Idess

A project from my college Art Design class.
This is a collage using images from a magazine. I purposefully tried to make it so you wouldn't be able to tell which is painted and which is a magazine clipping. Due to copyright issues the magazine clippings were often changed dramatically (for example, the St. Bernard in the fron was a magazine clipping of a St. Bernard with his mouth hanging open and his tongue out).<br><br><a href="http://idess.artspots.com/image/32312/spare-bulb"><img src="http://www.artspots.com/image_sizes/0021/3937/sparebulb_thumb_210.jpg" alt="Thumbnail" /></a><br /><br />Medium: collage + paint<br />Tags: anthro collage<br />

Rare Breed: Mudi by Idess

I've been wanting to do a sort of "series" of pictures of rarer breeds of dogs that most people don't know about. This first one is the Mudi.

<a href="http://www.americanmudiassociation.org/">The American Mudi Association Website</a>

The Mudi is a small herding breed originating in Hungary. They are recognized mostly by their coat, which is wavy and curly with short hair on the face and legs. They are most commonly seen as black, though they are recognized in many different colors. As a herding dog, they are very intelligent and willing to please their owner, though they are usually very reserved and quiet, and do not take well to harsh training techniques.

Please check out the above link for the AMA if you'd like to research this breed more on your own!

Otter Chieftain by Idess

I got some cheap card stock the other day specifically for sketches :)
So I drew up this river otter chieftain, complete with a kingfisher feather headress, a crane tail loincloth (if that's the right name), a shrimp net arm band, fish bone necklace, and various other reed accessories.
There's a light blue initial sketch beneath the darker pencil lines.

Sent from Hell by Idess

A gift for annushka (on here and annushkathesetter on DA) because she's done so much art for me and I have yet to pay her back! So this gift doesn't even begin to thank her enough! Check out her gallery; her artwork is a billion times better than ANYTHING I can do.

This is her fursona Annushka, floating in space like the other cool wolf arts (lawl. No really, she's jumping).
As usual, I tried something new with the shading. Kinda like it, kinda don't. Not sure what I should keep XD

The background textures are complete thanks to hibbary!

Fox On Stilts by Idess

Maned Wolves are commonly known as "Foxes on Stilts". It seems the little red fox tried a bit -too- hard to be like his taller cousin!

This original will probably be in the Art Show at Further Confusion 2009 (yes, January 2009). If not, I will probably auction it off on Furbuy.com.

Prints of this will also be available soon, whenever I get the money to make prints :) If you think you want a print, send me a note. Maybe if there's enough interest I'll try to scrounge up some money for a small print run or something like that.

Coffee Collie by Idess

I drew this guy on the paper wrapping of an image I was doing for art class containing non-traditional staining media. I was using coffee, and while I was waiting for it to dry, I drew him.
I sent the original to my good friend/sister Brynn.
